How did you start to become interested in lace ?
I was always fascinated by 18th and 19th century clothing, shawls, collars, blouses. Especially those made from Chantilly, the most mysterious lace, light and transparent. I have been rummaging in second hand stores for years. I keep my treasures in dozens of cardboard boxes. Unfortunately, they get damaged very quickly. Silk lace, in particular, burns or breaks. Sometimes, I dig out large shawls for use as accessories for a fashion show...[More...]

In Senegal, the second-hand clothes dealers used to sell bundles of French lace. I used to rush out to buy it, then dye in the bath which woiuld become green, pink or Coca Cola-coloured ! I could play at being a princess.[More...]

Absolutely ! My mother wore kinds of black stretch transparent body stockings, you know, with large stitching. They weren't fantastically elegant, but I really wanted to try them on ! Also, in my mind, this is the fabric used to dress the old wax dolls, with big blue eyes that blink and hair in ringlets...[More...]
